Wells is a Korean home appliance brand that has been around since 2002, best known here for water purifiers and, more recently, for air purifiers. There are three models in the Singapore range: the Interior, the Jet Blue and the Tornado.

On paper they look almost identical, because they all lead with the same filtration claim. In person they are completely different appliances, built for completely different rooms. Here is how to work out which one belongs in your home, without needing an engineering degree.

What all three share

All three use a H14 HEPA filter. That is the highest grade of HEPA, the class used in hospitals and cleanrooms, and Wells rates it at capturing 99.997% of ultra-fine dust.

It is worth knowing why that matters locally. Singapore’s annual PM2.5 average has set at 11 to 12 micrograms per cubic metre since 2020, while the WHO’s 2021 guideline is 5. Indoor filtration is one of the few things a household can actually control.

All three have built-in sensors and an air quality indicator, so you are not guessing. They also read room brightness, which is how they dim and quieten at night without being told to.

Wells Interior: for bedrooms and study rooms

The Wells Interior is the small one, and the one designed to be lived with rather than worked around. It covers around 19.8 square metres, which suits a typical bedroom, nursery or study.

The specification that really matters here is noise. Its quiet study mode runs at 28dB, soft enough to sleep through, and that counts for more than most people expect. A humming purifier gets switched off at midnight, and a purifier that is off is not cleaning anything.. It can also be wall-mounted instead of standing on the floor, which is genuinely useful in a bedroom where floor space is already committed, and it has a fabric-textured finish rather than a plastic-appliance look. It picked up both the IDEA Design Award and the Good Design Award in 2019.

Choose it if you want something in the room you sleep in, or as a second unit alongside a larger one elsewhere.

Wells Jet Blue: for the living room

The Wells Jet Blue is the middle of the range and the one that suits most Singapore living rooms. It covers up to 51.9 square metres and comes in a slim tower shape meant to sit close to a wall.

That shape is the real selling point. A wide, boxy purifier in a narrow living room is one more thing to squeeze past on the way to the sofa, and this one is designed to stay out of the way. It runs a four-step filter system, and the name comes from the blue LED indicators that show you air quality at a glance from across the room.

Choose it if you want one unit for the main living area of a three to five-room flat, or for an office.

Wells Tornado: for big open spaces

The Wells Tornado is the top of the range, and the one that works differently. Most purifiers pull air in from one face. The Tornado uses a patented suction system, which Wells describes as Korea’s first, drawing air in from all directions at once with a 17-degree sloped ventilation design. In a large room that matters, because a single-direction purifier leaves still, unmoved air sitting behind and beside it.

It runs a seven-step filter system and is rated to remove up to 99.999% of dust down to 0.01 microns, a tighter figure than the rest of the range. It also carries Grade 1 energy efficiency, the equivalent of a 5 tick rating, which is reassuring for something that runs all day. It comes in two sizes.

Choose it if you have a large open-plan living and dining space, a landed home, or a clinic or shop.

The range at a glance

  • Jet Blue. Living room or office. Up to 51.9 square metres. Slim tower. Four-step filtration with a custom layer, 99.997% dust removal, LED air quality indicators.
  • Tornado. Open-plan living and dining, landed homes, clinics and shops. The largest coverage, in two sizes. All-round intake, seven-step filtration, up to 99.999% dust removal, Grade 1 energy efficiency.

Specifications can change, so do check the current details on each product page or with us before buying.

Three questions that usually settle it

Which room, not which flat? Coverage figures assume one closed room. Air does not travel well through doorways, so two right-sized units in the two rooms you use most will beat one oversized unit in the corridor.

Will it run overnight? If yes, noise decides it, and the Interior’s 28dB mode exists for exactly that.

What is the main thing you are trying to deal with? Pet hair, cooking smells, road dust, and allergies are not the same problem, and knowing which one you are dealing with changes where you place the purifier. Worth working out before you buy rather than afterwards.

Looking after it

Two habits keep a purifier performing the way it did on day one. Clean the pre-filter regularly, because it is the outer layer that catches hair, lint and larger dust, and letting it clog makes the fan work harder and shortens the life of the HEPA filter behind it. Then replace the main filters on schedule. A HEPA filter does not fail suddenly, it simply becomes gradually less effective as it fills, so you will not notice the decline unless you are tracking it. Homes with pets, smokers or a lot of frying will get there faster than average.

And give it a bit of space. Pushing a purifier flat into a corner behind the sofa blocks both the intake and the outlet, and it will never reach the numbers on the box.

Conclusion

The filtration claim is the same across the range, so it is not the thing that should decide this. The room is. Match the coverage to one enclosed space, let noise decide anything that runs overnight, and let the shape of the room decide where the unit can stand. Do that and the three models stop looking interchangeable very quickly.
